Teddy bears are the cutest, most adorable toys ever! They’re soft, cuddly, and just the right size for snuggling up with on a cold winter’s night. It’s easy to get one from reputable wholesale teddy bear suppliers, but if you’re into DIYs, it’s easy to make. But how do you make a teddy bear? It’s easy! Just follow these steps:

Step 1: Gather your supplies

As with any DIY process, you’ll need to gather all the needed supplies and place them in an open space where you can easily reach them.

For a teddy bear, these will include:

  • Cardstock or paper of your choice
  • Black pen
  • Soft fabric in your preferred color, pattern, and texture
  • Stuffing material
  • Needle & thread or sewing machine

Step 2: Draw out the teddy bear

If you’ve got the skills to draw it out, proceed to draw the shape of the teddy bear on the paper. If you’re not too confident at first, you can take another sketch paper to practice before moving over to the real paper.

There are also teddy bear templates available to use. You can enlarge or reduce the size of the teddy bear before printing out the template.

Step 3: Cut out the shape

You can use a ruler, an exacto knife, or scissors if you don’t have a cutting tool. Trace around your bear on top of your cardstock or paper and cut out the shape. You’ll want to do this so that when you fold up your bear’s arms and legs, they’ll line up properly with each other and the rest of your body!

Step 4: Fold the soft fabric in half

Ensure the folded fabric is wide enough to accommodate the cutout teddy bear. When this is done, run the palm of your hand over the fabric to smooth out and even the surface of the fabric. It’ll remove all the creases and lumps on the fabric.

Step 5: Pin the template to the soft fabric

You wouldn’t want the template to fall off when you’re making your cut. Use a pin to hold the teddy bear template to the fabric. It should hold both layers of the folded fabric.

Step 6: Make the cut

With steady hands, cut a teddy bear shape on the fabric with the template. Go as slowly and gently as you need to. When you’re done, you’ll have two distinct, soft fabric, teddy bear cutouts.

Step 7: Sew both separate fabric together

You can either use a sewing machine or do it by hand. Sew a straight line through both fabrics and leave an opening in the leg area. The sewn line shouldn’t be too close to the edges to reduce pressure of the stuffing material on the thread.

Step 8: Turn the teddy bear right side out

When you’re done, turning the fabric right side out gives the teddy bear an 80% completed look. Then begin to push in the stuffing material into the teddy bear.

Close it up at the leg area when fully stuffed. Embellished the front fabric with eyes, nose, and a mouth, if you want.

That’s it! Your first DIY teddy bear is complete!

Conclusion

Teddy bears make the perfect cuddle buddies and can provide warmth on cold nights. They can be given as gifts for any occasion and will definitely put a smile on the recipient’s face. If you’re feeling crafty, making your own teddy bear is easy and definitely rewarding. Just follow the steps above and you’ll have your very own custom teddy bear in no time!
